Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Will AI Make Us Wiser or Not at All? Online
In collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning, this presentation is part of the Faculty of Education’s lecture series celebrating the University of Regina’s 50th Anniversary.
Abstract:
Generative AI is not just a tool—it is a mirror reflecting the strengths and weaknesses of educational research itself. From shaping methodologies to influencing data interpretation, AI challenges core research practices: Does it enhance scholarly inquiry or erode critical thinking? Does it expand access to knowledge or reinforce systemic biases? This session explores AI’s impact through an educational research lens, examining its role in theory-building, ethics, and methodological rigor. As AI-generated knowledge reshapes academic work, we must ask: Is it deepening our understanding of education, or merely changing how (and by whom) knowledge is produced?
