Biography:
Dr. Anita Acai was awarded the 3M National Student Fellowship (3MNSF) in 2013 while studying biochemistry at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. She now serves as the coordinator of the 3MNSF Program and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). After realizing that dedicating her career to the study of amino acids might not be her true calling, Dr. Acai pursued her master’s and PhD in health professions education and psychology at McMaster University, combining her background in science with her passion for education. She later joined McMaster’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences as an assistant professor and education scientist and held a hospital-based education scientist role at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. In these roles, she supported faculty, staff, and learners in developing education scholarship and led research focused on education, equity, well-being, competency-based medical education, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).
Earlier this month, Dr. Acai embraced a new challenge by joining George Brown College as the inaugural Director, SoTL. In this role, she will help implement an institutional SoTL strategy and build a community of practice around SoTL for faculty, staff, and students—an area of education she has always been passionate about.
She is excited to share more about the 3MNSF Program and its benefits for students and institutions with the University of Regina community.
