Teaching New Undergraduates: What I Have Learned and Unlearned

Teaching New Undergraduates: What I Have Learned and Unlearned Online

In this session, Brad will share his extensive experience as a student success librarian and instructor working with new college and university students. His unique position allows him to offer valuable perspectives on these students' challenges while transitioning to higher education.

By focusing on a student-centred approach, Brad will discuss various strategies to enhance engagement and support for new undergraduates. These could include understanding the diverse backgrounds and experiences that students bring and the impact of technology and social media on their learning and social interactions.

Additionally, Brad will share his unlearning experience, which suggests a critical reflection on traditional teaching methods and assumptions about student readiness, adapting instructional techniques to meet the evolving needs of today's students and how to foster a supportive learning environment that acknowledges the unique challenges of transitioning from high school to university. This session is designed to inspire educators to think critically about their teaching practices and to cultivate a more inclusive and responsive educational landscape for all students.
