Hypothesis: Creating Engaging Reading Experiences! In-Person / Online

Hypothes.is is an online social annotation tool that allows users to annotate openly on websites, blogs, journals, news articles, etc. Users can create groups to share online text, resources, links, and annotations.

In this presentation, Lorinda will demonstrate some of the ways the students have used Hypothesis as a learning tool in the English for Academic Purposes 100 course. As the course is zero-cost, and all materials are online, Hypothesis has been an important learning tool for students to build their reading and listening fluency, as well to build note taking and critical thinking skills for their future post secondary studies.

Registration is required (see below). For online registration, the Zoom link will be included in the confirmation email.

Presenter Bio

Lorinda is an instructor in the English as a Second Language Department at the University of Regina. In 2016 and 2022, she received DDLC funding to create blended courses for ESL: EAP 100 and EAP 101 Writing. While she is not always the most tech-savvy, Lorinda has a keen interest in using both Moodle and third-party apps to aid language learners in their studies. During the pilot, Lorinda has been using Hypothesis to engage her language learners.
