UR Graduate Student Teaching Certificate Program & University Teaching Certificate Program

The Centre for Teaching and Learning will be offering two teaching development certificate programs in the Fall 2018 semester: the UR Graduate Student Teaching Certificate Program and the University Teaching Certificate Program. For the most part, these programs will be offered through joint class sessions but will include differences in learning outcomes, expectations, and course length.

Audience
The UR Graduate Student Teaching Certificate Program, intended for Graduate students, is a twelve-week course offered on Wednesdays from 10:00 -12:00 p.m. The course will offer a comprehensive overview of the design, delivery, and assessment of curriculum in a post-secondary context; outcomes will include the development of a pedagogically sound course syllabus and outline, as well as the creation of a teaching dossier.

The University Teaching Certificate Program, intended for faculty, sessional lecturers, and post-doctoral fellows, primarily those with fewer than five years of teaching experience, is a nine-week course offered on Wednesdays from 10:00 -12:00 p.m. The course will offer a comprehensive overview of the design, delivery, and assessment of curriculum in a post-secondary context; outcomes will include the development of a pedagogically sound course syllabus and outline.

Program Summary
Some of the topics addressed in the joint class sessions will include: developing presentation skills; identifying learning outcomes, assessment, and evaluation; non-traditional learning methods; student-centred learning; multiple modalities; grading and assessment; the integration of social media in post-secondary classrooms; information literacy; and strategies for Indigenizing the curriculum.

Requirements
To obtain the certificate, participants must attend all face to face and Zoom workshops, participate in the discussion forums, and complete the required teaching tasks.

Students from the graduate Certificate Program will complete the program with a Teaching Dossier outline and a complete course outline.

All classess will be held in the Library, LY 107.33 (Wascana Room)
